About Me
Hey, I’m Jason Kent. I’m a freelance web developer based in Eastern Idaho, near Idaho Falls.
I didn’t start in tech. I studied psychology at first, then got pulled into coding and never looked back. I’ve been building websites professionally for about five years now, and I still enjoy the process just as much as when I started.
Right now, I’m also a Software Engineer at Liberty Mutual. I work on a team that manages several frontend applications, and I’m involved in a group building AI tools for an internal SharePoint wiki. It’s a good mix of structured engineering work and figuring things out as we go.
When it comes to freelance work, I like keeping things simple and clean. Fast sites, solid structure, and designs that actually make sense for your business. I’ve worked with small businesses, local brands, and ecommerce setups, and I try to make the whole process straightforward and low stress.
What I usually work with:
- Next.js, React, Tailwind CSS
- Prismic, MySQL
- Shopify and ecommerce setups
- SEO and performance optimization
I also do some copywriting when needed, because the message matters just as much as the build.
Outside of work, I’m a husband, a dad, an author, and someone who splits time between a screen and the outdoors.
Experience
I’m currently a Software Engineer at Liberty Mutual, working on frontend applications and contributing to internal AI tools.
Before that, I got my start at Leisure Time Inc., where I focused on frontend development and learned how to build things that are both practical and reliable. That foundation stuck with me.
Since then, I’ve worked across a mix of industries, from corporate environments to small businesses and local services. A lot of my freelance work has been independent, which means I’m used to taking ownership and seeing projects all the way through.
One of my early freelance projects, Wellberry Health, has since been turned into a sample health clinic site that I use as a starting point for similar builds.
What I bring to projects:
- Clean, maintainable code
- Clear communication
- Reliability and follow-through
- A focus on real-world usability, not just aesthetics
Lately I’ve been exploring AI tools to improve workflows and build smarter solutions where it actually makes sense.
At the end of the day, I just like building things that work well and help people move forward.
